Just received the latest Zivel issue and (unfortunately) just sampled the content so far. As usual it has nutritious and yummy trip to alternative with packed audio CD. This time Dogma sound - underground female hip hop sound (the highlights: Kid Sister - Get Fresh and Rye Rye - Bang). And as the bonus ... I loaded Zivel's page by the way and found a link to new Perak comics project! Story and concept art within ... der Mythus, der Kult, die Wissenschaft!
Got God is not great book by Christopher Hitchens as a Christmass present. What the irony the book contains brilliant set of arguments against the religion that gave us these holidays. Anyway it is an accusation of the religion beeing violent, intolerant, bigot, racist and generally against free thought. And not just christianity, but islam, judaism, east religions and basically any form of organized religion too.
Hitchens presents how irrational are the basic fundaments of the religions and how this fact is disclosed very easily if you use a bit of the logic and common sense. The highlight of the book is the author is excellent in pinpointing how the religion is misused as the ultimate reason in the war conflicts and totalitarian regimes, where we will find all religions have a lot of blood on the hands.
As always the book has its weaknesses of course. Besides few cheap carnival soundbites on the subject ... the scope is too wide in my opinion (really "religion poisons everything"?) which makes some of the ideas just one sentence claims, thus making them invalidable and inconsistently weak. References are expected to be known by the reader and are not quoted (honestly who read the Bible, Quaran, ancient Greek philosophers, Hume, Spinoza and Voltaire?).
The verdict: once again the proof how worth is to use the most complex system in the universe - the brain. 8.5/10.

2008 summer festival seasons is almost over, so far with few notable events such as Sziget or Let it roll and many small/local gigs. As I don't have anything else in my schedule for the rest of the summer, it's time to wrap up and briefly check out next season. There are two events which I found particularly interesting - Burning man and Boom festivals.
Similar, both distant (close to unreachable), but looking great and promising extraordinary experience. Check the pics and movies ...

Anyone want to join me for one of them?
Another live event of this summer ... Radiohead with support from Moderat. The good: sound (don't remember I have ever heard such crystal clear sound on an open air event) and visuals (impressive light tubes hung from the top). Otherwise a lot of brit-guitar songs (which are not exactly my cup of tea), just a tiny teaser of Moderat (playing just 30 min ... or maybe they started ahead of listed time) and terribly bad organization (have you ever paid 50 CZK deposit for regular Coke bottle?).
