Cities seen from a hotel room

Standard

Sometimes I take the picture of the city from the hotel room window when I’m traveling. Few of such pictures follow. You can play a quick quiz and try to guess which city is on each picture. The options are: Mexico city, Hyderabad, Paris, Cairo, Rio de Janeiro and Montreal. It should not be too hard …

There are not just evil tracks of the week

Standard

Attendance at any big conference meeting is a good opportunity to scan other people’s computers. Once you connect into a WiFi network at such event a list of other computers appears immediately via Bonjour / Zeroconf services. There is of course nothing interesting or valuable at those computers, but one is tempted to scan them anyway :) This time at ICANN meeting I found Evil computer!

Wonder what was on that computer? Honestly I don’t know as I didn’t browse it, becuase I was scared I could find something truly evil.

Wikitravel dilemma

Standard

I was confronted with a dilemma when I wanted to edit pages in Wikitravel guide. I found the article about my hometown Ceske Budejovice to be just an outline and started to edit it, but … the problem quickly appeared.

On one hand it is a travel guide so naturally it should be written by somebody who is a traveller to the particular destination and not by somebody who is local. But on the other hand you know once you meet somebody local while traveling you will get from such a person more interesting places than just those most popular (or just those in travel guides)…

Hard to decide whether to edit or not. Maybe the solution could be to edit because of knowledge of local environment, but the travelers should comment or rate the items in the guide to express what was interesting.

Radarzilla

Standard

After boring campaigns of radar base opponents and virtually no actions of its supporters I found one particularly funny piece in this issue in Prague subway train. Is this some sort of secret NATO project :)

Text is in czech only and not well readable, so here is the translation of the first picture of the strip.

Title: “… somewhere deep in the forests of Brdy”
Squirrel: “Wow, what is growing over here?”
