Thumb down – Nokia

Standard

Nokia is trying to remove OGG format from HTML5 draft at W3C. Regarding their position paper OGG is proprietary. Ha ha ha … transparent and cheap, just check the document for DRM keyword. It’s quite clear where the wind blows from.

Nokia has included a SIP client in their business phones – namely E line. All phones have the option to call over the internet, but Nokia does not want to tell you that. They do not want to show the phones at one of the major VoIP/ENUM events in Czech Republic – ENUM Day hosted by CZ.NIC, because they’re scared of mobile carries?! Do you understand why someone with 40% market share is scared?

Internet radio

Standard

Started to listen to BassDrive internet radio last week and am really amazed. Unlike other (not named) internet radios this one has a regular schedule like FM radio stations – shows hosted by real DJs! Not just repeating a playlist endlessly or shuffle all the tracks. Archive with recorded shows. What else can we want? Some sort of interaction? ICQ?

Anyway a good insight into mostly american (yes there were hosts from UK, Brazil and maybe more countries, but most of time the DJs are form various parts of the US) dnb scene as here in Europe we know just a few US producers and DJ. This is the first internet project, I’m going to donate.

Colder than space

“A vast physics experiment built in a tunnel below the French-Swiss border is fast becoming one of the coolest places in the Universe.” [BBC]

Check out more on LHC at CERN or Wikipedia. All the pictures seem to me really impressive. Bad news is 2008 Open day at CERN has been in April :( Hope they will have it next year again, but at that time LHC should be already in operation. So hope nothing will go terribly wrong either this or this way.

Cokovoko

Standard

There is a fresh wind on czech hiphop scene! I don’t like most of czech hiphop as the rap is about “gangsta” stuff and dissing others only and you can only smile or laugh at it here in the heart of Europe, where most dangerous part of Prague is Karlin?

Anyway … Cokovoko are two girls from Brno I guess (because of the accent). You can notice sometimes they just have started as sometimes are their sound and rhymes cheap, but definitely girls are jokeful and funny. Check out the tracks Vladova zpoved a Co se ti honi hlavou (both in czech). There are some YouTube videos available as well, but with really poor sound quality.
