Regular desk phone with YouTube, but …

Standard

Regular desk VoIP phone with YouTube? WTF! I could not belive it, but I have seen it myself – GrandStream GXV3175 phone featuring touch display and YouTube as one of the “apps” on it.

I could understand clock or weather widgets on the screen. Maybe even a currency converter, but who would watch the videos on desk phone? The answer was much simpler than I though – nobody, because it did not work with any video it offered and I tried. It just does not work, all my attempts ended up with “Sorry, this video contains content from other sites” message. Come on.

And that is not the only issue with the phone from what I heard from my colleague who bought it as a gift to his parents. Apart from crappy touchscreen technology and weird UI I experienced while trying YouTube, he told me the main problem is it can not receive calls, it just does not ring :) Oops.

Flying car, Watson doing taxes or edible tablet?

Standard

The funniest comment I found after new iPad announcement yesterday is in the article iPad Innovation: Diminishing Returns, Or Exceeding Expectations? The author says the innovations are not really the innovations in terms of a breakthrough as Apple claimed during the keynote many times. And he adds: “Apple is going to have to introduce the flying car, a Watson in human form that can do my taxes, or an edible tablet before we’ll feel emotionally moved enough to pay attention.” I’m definitely in favor of edible tablet. I suggest vanilla and blueberry flavor to start with.

8bit sound since 8AM

Standard

Today I started the day with IM message from my old friend linking me to Youtube recording of old school C64 Tetris intro music. And since the morning I’ve listened to a couple of good old 8bit tunes. It’s incredible what the pioneers of computer generated music such as Rob Hubbard or Fred Gray have been able to squeeze out from small piece of silicon. Timetravel to the ’80!

There are tons of the remixes too … Ferrera remix, Jogeir Liljedahl remix.

Hello world from WordPress

Standard

Yes, a radical change must happen time to time. I have to say goodbye to Nanoblogger which powered well my blog for last six years. Welcome from WordPress! I hope this change will bring more and of course higher quality posts.

There is not complete history from as far as 2005 in new system as it requires quite a significant amount of manual work. The plan is to transfer the rest in next couple of days. The default WP theme will be changed too. Stay tuned…

Vaporware 2010

Standard

As every year Wired’s 2010 vaporware list has just arrived. Besides “King of Vaporware”, “The Sultan of Suck” or “the Chief Executive Officer of Fail” Duke Nukem Forever we have an orchestra of failure. Btw … 64bit Flash Player received my vote. Check out trends summaries to look for next year candidates.

Who’s suing who

Standard

RIM vs. Motorola, Motorola vs. Apple, Apple vs. Nokia, Nokia vs. Sharp, Sharp vs. RIM. Everyone vs. Everyone. Check out who’s suing who. The situation starts to be quite absurd now and I’m wondering when the snow ball gathers enough momentum to destroy current ridiculous software patents. Based on actions within last 365 days, we’ll reach it sooner than later.

Killer fungus versus zombie ants

Standard

Scientists found the evidence of a parasitic fungus that took over the brain of an ant and killed it to spread the spores and continue its own lifecycle. Fortunately it lived 48 million years ago. But hey … you never know. Why was it terminated by the evolution? And is it really gone? And does they eat brains?
